I bought a mini projector because I was tired of squinting at my laptop during overnight trips. That was the whole reason — no home theater ambitions, just a screen situation that was getting annoying.

## Setup
First setup took about seven minutes. Connected to Wi-Fi, logged into apps, pointed it at the wall. The auto keystone corrected the image distortion on its own — both vertical and horizontal. This sounds like a minor thing until you've used a projector that makes you do it manually every time. Here you just put it down and it figures out the geometry. I've overridden it manually exactly zero times.
The 200 ANSI lumen output works in a dimmed room. Not a blacked-out room, not bright afternoon light. At night with curtains drawn it throws a clean watchable image. I've used it outdoors in daylight once — fine for background ambience, not for anything you actually need to see clearly.
## Android 14 and the App Side
Running full Android 14 means a real app ecosystem, not the stripped-down launcher situation some budget projectors ship with. Google Play works. I use Netflix, YouTube, and a couple of local media players without workarounds.
One thing worth knowing: Netflix required a small configuration step to work properly on this hardware. Nothing complicated, but if you're planning to use it the day it arrives, look that up in advance. The interface itself responds well — older Android projectors had this quality where every tap felt like it was thinking about it. The HY300Pro doesn't have that problem.
## Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth in Use
Wi-Fi 6 makes a real difference for streaming. The buffering pauses I dealt with on my old 802.11ac projector don't show up here. The HY300Pro handles 4K content — though the native panel is 1080p, so 4K is on the input side. At normal bedroom or living room viewing distances the image is sharp.
Bluetooth 5.4 pairs fast and stays connected. My headphones connected on the first try and haven't dropped. I've also paired it with a small portable speaker outdoors — held solid at around 30 feet with no obstacles, which covers most situations where you'd actually be using it outside.
## Where It's Actually Been
Hotel rooms, mostly — that was always the point. Also a friend's garage for a boxing match, my backyard a couple of times, and one work trip where I projected presentation materials on a hotel wall rather than crowding around a laptop. The form factor makes all of this low-effort. It's lighter than a hardcover book and has a tripod mount on the bottom for outdoor angles.
No built-in battery, so you need a power source. Outdoors that means a power bank — I use one rated at 65W and it works. If outdoor use is the reason you're considering this, factor that in before buying.
## What Doesn't Work as Well
The built-in speaker handles dialogue fine and is acceptable for casual TV. For anything where audio actually matters, Bluetooth out to a real speaker is the move.
Fan noise is there. It's a steady low hum, like a laptop under mild load. Quiet room, you'll notice it. During content, mostly not. If background noise bothers you, worth knowing.
## Bottom Line
The auto keystone and Wi-Fi 6 are the two features I reach for constantly — they remove the friction that makes cheaper projectors a chore to use. Android 14 means the software doesn't feel bolted on. The brightness is real but limited, so the use case is controlled low-light environments, not outdoor daytime viewing.
If you want a travel-sized projector that actually works without a setup ritual every time, this has been reliable. If you need outdoor brightness or a built-in battery, different category.
